In a quiet village between Durham and Bishop Auckland, the cottage stands off an ancient lane leading to The Old Hall and the River Wear, with no through traffic. Enjoy the privacy & tranquillity of this cosy cottage with country walks from the door or use as a base from which to explore the beautiful Durham Dales – Weardale & Teesdale with their the historical splendour and industrial past. Keilder Water, Hadrian’s Wall, the Northumberland coast and Lake District for longer days out.
The exterior of this 500 year barn, which had been unused for many years, was painstakingly restored in Summer 2014 with the original stone repointed with lime mortar, and where necessary replaced by old stone from the site. The original stone stairway to access the first floor has been retained, though you’ll be happy to know a new internal staircase was added with the cottage entrance now hidden away around the other side of the building. – (Restoration by Bayhaven Ltd – thanks to Kev, Mick & Dave for their skill & patience)
